(Steve) Last night in suburban Lubbock was entertaining - for the first couple minutes. Then the fireworks started - pretty much everywhere. Obviously most folks missed the sign in the office that said “use fireworks after quiet hours and several guests will beat you with a stick”. We were tired, the dog was petrified, and the fireworks went on until the very early morning. Now generally I like the 4th but we just have our heads into this trip. We still had some internal organization of “stuff” to do and this was our second day on the road. It was a big one of about 360 miles which is far more tiring driving an RV than a sweet road car. We ended the day pooped and cranky. But tomorrow is now today and all is well and we are happy.
(Pam) Steve is right… it was a miserable night of constant fireworks. It wasn’t just in our park either. I think we were VERY close to where the city-wide fireworks were set off. Oh, and Steve noticed a fireworks factory as we drove into town… these Texans love their Fourth of July! Poor Maggie. We drugged her pretty good, so she was terrified AND stoned.
Today’s drive was great even though long. No one was on the roads and we started to joke that all of Texas left town for the weekend. The towns we passed through were deserted, and sometimes we were the only ones on the highway for miles. We drove through some pretty valleys, and all the prairies are green. We stopped at a rest area for a late breakfast and continued on to Oklahoma. It was cloudy all day, and although the clouds looked ominous, we didn’t get but a few rain drops along the way. The heavy air has made for some humidity though. We are now ensconced at a KOA just outside of Oklahoma City. It’s crowded here with lots of families due to the holiday weekend. We don’t mind though. We are happy in our little air conditioned RV with cold gin and tonics in hand. I tried to convince Steve to go to the tie-dye party they had going on when we arrived, but he said he only somewhat graciously declined.
Tomorrow… off to Arkansas!
