I’m not really complaining… there is something beautiful and wild here in Newfoundland on a rainy day. It does keep you inside a bit more though!
The day after the kitchen party, all of us slept in and were just getting going about the time the caravan started showing up. We spent the day just hanging out, and we were all happy we hadn’t had to make a 5+ hour drive that day!
Yesterday was especially cold… temps in the 40s when we got up. Steve and I drove into town and found some breakfast and then did a bit of exploring. We went to the Visitor’s Center for Gros Morne National Park and then checked out the passenger ferry that will take you across the bay. We didn’t get on as we couldn’t take our truck, and really the sights over there would require a vehicle to go see. You can drive there, but it takes an hour. We may do that today as it’s sunny but still cool.
After that, we checked out a couple of galleries and I bought a sweater I was hoping to find while here. It is wool, long, and a very pretty peacock blue color. It was hand spun and knit here in Newfoundland. I actually put it on as soon as I got back to the truck… I think I mentioned it’s pretty cold here right now.
We then met up with friends at the Anchor Pub for a beer before heading back to the rv park for a gumbo dinner. Our tailgunners are from Louisiana, and ‘Miss Jo’ knows how to make a great chicken and sausage gumbo. She made it last summer on our Alaska tour and she had remembered how much we all loved it then, so she did it again. Everyone loved it.
After dinner, our little group of friends met in Ken and Deb’s RV for drinks and conversation. We invited our tailgunners, Butch and Jo, to join us. It was fun to reminisce about last summer. Butch and Jo had been our wagonmasters, and we chatted how this trip is very different than that one. I won’t put the details here, but suffice it to say, it’s a very different level of service.
So, the last couple of days have been fairly quiet, and today likely will too. There just isn’t a lot to do in these small villages in Newfoundland. Tonight we have a dinner and musical show to attend, and tomorrow we are booked on a boat tour.
