We left our sweet Maggie with Marc and Karen after a wonderful 4 night stay. We did very little while at their home (except laundry and a deep clean inside the rv), which was WONDERFUL! We hit the road shortly after 8:00 this morning and had a beautiful drive up into Canada. We drove east the whole time, and oddly, I was surprised that we got even further east than OUR east coast… enough that we hit another time zone! I had no idea that there was another time zone an hour later than where we left the U.S. The lovely part of that is we can go to bed an hour early and it will still be our regular bed time. Yep. We are getting old.
We had no issues with crossing the border, and there were no lines in Calais, Maine, which is the border crossing we used. Calais looks like it would be pronounced in the very fancy-French way… Ca-lay. Nope. In Maine it’s pronounced ‘Callis.’ Oh brother…
Same as last summer, I had a bit of a panic attack when I saw the speed limit was 90 right after we got through the border. Then it jumped to 110. Even though my brain knew we were only going half that speed in mph, it is still alarming to see Steve’s speedometer!

Our stop for the night is in the city of Saint John, New Brunswick. It’s a pretty port city with a cool downtown area. After we got set up at our rv park for the night we headed out to explore a bit. We ran into Costco looking for some camp chairs. We didn’t find what we were looking for, so we drowned our sorrows at an Irish gastro pub. From there, we found a British pub, and Steve enjoyed a full turkey dinner complete with mash potatoes, dressing, and cranberry sauce. I had a steak ‘pie’ with the flakiest pastry on the top. Delish. And I had a peach cider.
That second picture of Steve was funny, because as he was standing there, the door to the restaurant opened just a crack and someone dropped a piece of candy on the step in front of him, and then closed the door again. It was almost like someone was trying to entice us in! We both looked at it, then each other, and started laughing. Steve said, ‘if that isn’t a sign to go in, I don’t know what is!’
We are now back at the RV and looking forward to an early bedtime. Tomorrow we will be in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It is there we will meet up with our caravan friends from earlier in the week, and then on the 26th, the rest of the tour will arrive. After three weeks on the road already, we are ready to start the main adventure!
